Hellspeak

Hellspeak The Slaughter Rule Of Agony Marc Lopes---Vocals Matt Leff-------Guitar Chris Rapoza--Bass Jason Bittner---Drums      Normally when I listen to a new album to review I sit back and let the computer speakers handle it. For this particular release I thought it would be best to get in my car and drive. The music exploded from my car speakers and it was good and it was loud and it is metal. Hellspeak delivers on a scale that should propel them to a national  spotlight. Hellspeak has recorded one of the best metal albums I have heard from a local artist. The mastermind behind this molten metal masterpiece is Marc Lopes. Truly he is a fan of metal as well as a performer extraordinaire. From his social media postings  to his other metal side projects which include a vocal slot in the band Meliah Rage, Marc Lopes is metal. Hands down. And once again a New England Metal tone to the over all recording. That certain tone that only bands from the...

Eddie Trunk Anniversary Party

Image
Epic.       Just a word, but it is a good word.  A strong word to help you visualize the type of night that went down at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square, New York City. To honor Eddie Trunks 30 years in the radio business promoting and supporting heavy metal music. That much time in an ever changing industry is a testament to the his passion for the metal genre. His enthusiasm wasn't tempered by age or fame, he stood center to the stage, deep in the audience to experience, as he said  "where it all began".    His focus was unwavering as The Winery Dogs hit the stage. A band that he personally had a hand in creating. Approached by dozens of fans who wanted photos or handshakes, he never stopped smiling and was quick to point out to bystanders a guitar lick or a drum roll that caught his attention. Later in the evening Mike Portnoy, drummer extraordinaire and Winery Dog member, rolled out one of the most impressi...

SANTAGATA, The Interview

Image
Andrew Santagata has been a mainstay in the Rhode Island music community for years. His music is ever evolving and always fresh. I sent a few questions his way via email regarding his music, his latest album, and a lifetime of pure dedication to his art form.     1. Your musical career spans over 15 years. What are some of the highlights for you? Any regrets?   Any regrets, no... But some highlights have been getting to share the stage with some of my favorite bands, including, Alice Cooper, Heaven And Hell (Sabbath with Dio), Queensryche, Buckcherry, Sevendust, Tesla, Dope, Powerman 5000, Kittie, Alice In Chains, Shinedown, Disturbed, Godsmack, Skid Row, Quiet Riot, Enuff Z Nuff, White Lion and many many more. Lots of highlights! One of the coolest was getting to be a part of the Locobazooka Concert Film/Movie, was filmed in Fitchburg MA back in 2004 in front of over 20,000 ppl and I got to play the main stage, prime time, was mad crazy, and to be...

Testament, Overkill,and more...show review

Testament,Overkill, Flotsam and Jetsam, 4arm      We arrived early on a crisp New England night. The sidewalks still piled high with last week's blizzard. We had our tickets already so one quick frisk at the door and we entered the Worcester Palladium. The night had fallen. Leather, hair, denim patched jackets mixed with the smell of sweat and stale beer. The line to the men's room, insanity. The end result with in those stalls, horrifying. All the makings of a great night of thrashy metal. 4 arm, from Australia did not disappoint. They are what a good thrash band is meant to be. The guitarist stage right looked like he was ten years old but he shredded from opening to end. Vocals were insane and clear. This was metallica pre- kill em all days. Simple, powerful, to the point. Flotsam and Jetsam were up next and they are quite simply an American icon. Thrashy, yes, metal, no doubt. Incredible guitar work here and the old songs sounded fresh and new. But let me say ...

Posted by Bryan Martin at 9:40 AM 0 comments ZEBRA A Power Trio Blast From The Past      At the tender age of 15 in the year 1983 I discovered a little band called Zebra. At the time I based my band preference on album covers and band names. So Zebra with their closeup band face shot on the cover and the weird Sesame Street like name should never have crossed my radar. But for their songs I would have passed them by. The opening lines of " Tell Me What You Want " pull you in and then hit you over the head when the song kicks in. Brilliant musicianship and powerhouse vocals. " Who's Behind The door ?" is one of the best songs on the album their career. It is rivaled only by " Bears " off the " No Tellin Lies " album. Following the debut, they released No Tellin Lies , 3.V , Live , The best of Zebra in Black And White ., King biscuit Flower Hour-Zebra , and IV   as well as a solo album by Randy Jackson and Felix Hannemann. As a thr...
